First defeat since the World Cup: Germany lose against Australia

The German national team suffered its first defeat since the semi finals of the World Cup 2010 as Australia win 2-1 (0-1) at Mönchengladbach. It was the revenge for the "Aussies" who lost in the group stage of the WC 0-4 to the Germans.

Germany dominated the first half and Mario Gomez scored just after 26 minutes to bring the lead. Australia failed to make the most of their few half chances and were overly physical in many challenges.

But the tide turned in the second half when the "Socceroos" came out looking more composed and tied the game when David Carney defeated Goalkeeper Tim Wiese (61.). Just three minutes later, Harry Kewell was brought down in the area by Christian Träsch and Luke Wilkshire converted from the penalty spot (64.).
