FIFA Ballon d'Or 2014: World Champion Neuer on the shortlist

Having won the World Cup, he could now be named World Footballer of the Year: Manuel Neuer is one of three players on the final shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or. The 28-year-old goalkeeper, who plays for FC Bayern München, could be the first Germany player to win the prestigious award since Lothar Matthäus (1991). Alongside Neuer in the final three are Cristiano Ronaldo and four-time winner Lionel Messi.

The award is voted for by coaches and captains of international teams as well as journalists from all over the world. The winner will be announced on 12th January 2015 in Zurich. Alongside the FIFA Ballon d'Or, the following prizes will also be awarded: The 11 members of the FIFA FIFPro World XI, the FIFA Puskás Award for the best goal of the year, the FIFA Presidential Award and the FIFA Fairplay Award.
