FFC Frankfurt: Going into the final full of confidence

1. FFC Frankfurt are brimming with confidence ahead of the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain in Berlin on Thursday (18:00 CEST). "We’re focused on securing our fourth title and want to return to Frankfurt with the cup," said FFC sporting director Siegfried Dietrich.

The seven-time Bundesliga Champions only finished third in the top-flight this season and that means their only way to qualify for next season’s Champions League competition is by winning today. "We’ll give it everything we’ve got," commented manager Colin Bell, who has concerns over the fitness of both Saskia Bartusiak and Kerstin Garefrekes. "We’re travelling to Berlin to lift the cup."

This is Frankfurt’s sixth time in the final. FFC previously triumphed in 2002, 2006 and 2008 but lost in the 2004 and 2012. PSG have five German players in their ranks (Fatmire Alushi, Annike Krahn, Josephine Henning, Linda Bresonik und Ann-Katrin Berger) and this is the club’s first appearance in the final. The French club knocked out defending champions VFL Wolfsburg in the semi-final. They will have to manage without top scorer Caroline Seger though as she is suspended.

The match at the Berlin Jahn-Sportpark is almost sold out (17,174). German Chancellor Angela Merkel has also announced that she’ll be attending. Around 1200 FFC fans are expected in the capital. The squad and coaching staff travelled to Berlin on Tuesday. If FFC win, they’ll hold a reception in Frankfurt on Friday.

UEFA award the winners 250,000 euros and the runners-up receive 200,000 euros.
