FCB captain Lahm: "The team are fully behind the coach"

Record champions Bayern München secured another three points this weekend after beating TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 2-0 at the Allianz Arena. World Cup winner and captain Philipp Lahm sat down to discuss Bayern’s injury problems, the so-called ‘mole’ in the dressing room and Robert Lewandowski’s form.

Question: Mr. Lahm, both Jérôme Boateng and Javi Martínez are now out injured. How big a problem is that for the centre of your defence?

Philipp Lahm: That’s part of football unfortunately. It is of course very frustrating, he has had problems with his knee for a while now. It’s a real shame, we’re going to miss him.

Question: Would you say as captain that you need to get someone in who can play at centre half?

Lahm: I am captain of the team, my job is primarily concerned with what happens on the training pitch and in matches - not transfers. The chairman deals with that. We will see what happens, there is still a bit of time left.

Question: Where do you stand on the whole 'mole in the dressing room' story?

Lahm: Things like this will always happen, there are always unsatisfied players. The team gets on very well, and for that reason I don’t see it as a problem. There’s no point making too much of it. Everything is going well, you saw that against Hoffenheim. It’s also clear that the team are fully behind the coach. We weren’t that pleased last weekend as we didn’t play as well as we had hoped - but we got the points. The team showed against Hoffenheim what they are capable of. We had a very, very good first half and only allowed them one chance to score. We were dominant, and put in a good performance overall.

Question: Does Robert Lewandowski’s goal scoring run give the team hope in light of the recent defensive injuries?

Question: Does Robert Lewandowski’s goal scoring run give the team hope in light of the recent defensive injuries?

Lahm: No, as we still need defenders and a whole team that work hard defensively. Our attacking players do that too, and they score the goals. If you’ve got Robert going on a run like this season, particularly with his goals like he scored against Wolfsburg, then that’s brilliant for the team, as he often allows us to take the lead. Despite that, there are a lot of other players required for success.
