FC Bayern's Brynjarsdottir: "Anything is possible"

DFB.de: Your contract ends in the summer. Do you want to stay?

Brynjarsdottir:Yes, I can definitely see myself staying here. It's another topic that doesn’t need to be discussed at the moment though. We are only focussing on the remaining challenges.

DFB.de: You are from Iceland but have played in the United States before coming here. How would you rate the quality of the Allianz Women's Bundesliga?

Brynjarsdottir: The standard of football in the league is very high. The Allianz Women's Bundesliga is one of the strongest leagues in the world. A lot of the games are hotly contested and evenly balanced which is great for players and supporters alike. The games are very tactical and technical. It's also very physically demanding and the games are played at a high tempo. Fortunately I was able to adapt quite quickly. I'm really enjoying myself here.

It was a great day for FC Bayern München as victory saw them return to second place in the Allianz Women's Bundesliga standings. Winning goal scorer Dagny Brynjarsdottir wasn’t bothered that the team required a little bit of luck to secure a 1-0 victory over 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam. The Iceland international’s goal settled the match with 15 minutes left to play.

"We are just happy to have secured the three points," said the 23-year-old in an interview with DFB.de. "It was a very intense game and a difficult task for all of us." After this win, FC Bayern are back in the title race with a Champions League qualification for next season looking very realistic.

DFB.de: Miss Brynjarsdottir, your goal secured a 1-0 victory over Turbine Potsdam. Was it a perfect day?

Dagny Brynjarsdottir: Yes, it's a wonderful evening. I'm happy to have helped my team in such an important game. This win puts us right back on track.

DFB.de: How did you feel when the ball hit the back of the net?

Brynjarsdottir: I was relieved. I’d already missed two good chances before that so I was just really happy.

DFB.de: It was your first goal for FC Bayern after having joined the club in January.

Brynjarsdottir: That makes it twice as special for me. I scored recently, but it was ruled out for offside so I was pleased that it finally happened today. In the end though, it doesn’t matter who scores the goals. All that matters to us are the three points.

DFB.de: What was the key to victory today?

Brynjarsdottir: We defended well. The game was very balanced right from the start. I immediately knew that one goal could be enough to decide the match. Turbine had good opportunities themselves, but we had that extra bit of luck on our side that you sometimes need.

DFB.de: You're back in second place, one point behind table toppers VfL Wolfsburg. What can the team now achieve this season?

Brynjarsdottir: Anything is possible but we will continue to look from game to game. That may sound boring, but it's the way it really is. It wouldn't make any sense to take a different approach. We have four games left and want to win them all. We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

DFB.de: If you won all four matches, you would at least qualify for the Champions League. You could even possibly win the title.

Brynjarsdottir: Yes, maybe. As I’ve already mentioned though, it's not a topic of discussion in our team. We also have to wait and see what the other teams do. Frankfurt will face Wolfsburg on the last matchday and it's entirely possible that this game will decide the championship. The teams are all quite close to each other and a dramatic final matchday lies in store.

DFB.de: You joined FC Bayern two months ago. What are your first impressions?

Brynjarsdottir: My first impression is very positive. I’ve joined a fantastic club with a great team spirit. Everyone made me feel extremely welcome. I come from a village with a population of about 1,000 and here is a big city so it’s completely different. I'm proud to be part of this team.

DFB.de: Your contract ends in the summer. Do you want to stay?

Brynjarsdottir:Yes, I can definitely see myself staying here. It's another topic that doesn’t need to be discussed at the moment though. We are only focussing on the remaining challenges.
