FC Bayern Ladies put one foot in the quarter-finals

FC Bayern München Ladies have put themselves in a good position for the second-leg against FK Rossiyanka in the last 16 of the Women’s Champions League. FC Bayern Ladies beat FK Rossiyanka 4-0 this evening and look sure to qualify for the quarter-finals even before playing the second-leg on 17th November.

VfL Wolfsburg Ladies play Swedish first division team Eskilstuna United in the last 16 on Thursday evening at 19:00 CET. The draw for the quarter-finals will take place on 25th November in Nyon.

Confident start for Bayern

Having won their last seven consecutive matches, FC Bayern started the match full of confidence and immediately created one or two goal-scoring chances. After 30 minutes of play, FC Bayern Ladies started to look even more dangerous. Miedema had the best opportunity of the match so far in the 36th minute but her shot was blocked. FC Bayern took the lead in the 41st minute when Lisa Evan’s cross was deflected by Russian defender Kristina Alexanjan into her own net. A few minutes later, Olympic gold medallist Melanie Behringer played the perfect pass through to Nicole Rolser who made it 2-0.

4-0 to Bayern

FC Bayern Ladies started the second half exactly how they started the first. Substitute Katharina Baunach nearly made it 3-0 in the 47th minute but her shot was cleared off the line. However, Miedema did score the third goal in the 52nd minute with a spectacular effort from about 20 yards out.

Carina Werninger came close to scoring a fourth in the 72nd minute but she fired her shot wide of the post. However, Miedema scored her second goal, and the winning goal for Bayern in the 75 minute from about 15 yards out.
