Favre steps down as Gladbach boss

Lucien Favre stepped down as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach on Sunday evening. The 57-year-old from Switzerland took the decision after overseeing Borussia’s worst ever start to a top-tier season – they have lost their last six competitive games (five in the league and one in the Champions League). The Foals lost the Rhine derby 1-0 to 1. FC Köln yesterday.

“After a period of reflection and analysis I have come to the decision that leaving my position as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach is for the best,” Favre said. He got the job in February 2011 and turned Borussia from relegation candidates to Champions League contenders.
