Favourites through to next round

Bayern München, Werder Bremen, Schalke 04 and 1899 Hoffenheim went thorugh to the next round in the German Cup on Wednesday. Bayern took a 4-0 in Frankfurt, Bremen beat Kaiserslautern 3-0. Schalke reached the quarterfinals with a 3-0 win at 1860 München and Hoffenheim beat Koblenz 4-0.

VfL Osnabrück caused the shock of the third round by defeating Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund 3-2 at the Osnatel-Arena. The home sides goals came from Angelo Barletta (2) and Benjamin Siegert with Dortmund's goals coming from Nuri Sahin and Lucas Barrios.

Struggeling VfB Stuttgart lost 0-1 at Greuther Fürth and is also out of the run for the cup. Bernd Nehrig put Fuerth ahead in the 32nd minute with the hosts' first scoring chance, when he left Arthur Boka and Mathieu Delpierre standing to fire home.

FC Augsburg hammered MSV Duisburg 5-0 at impuls arena. Augsburg opened the scoring short before half time through an own goal of MSV-Striker Sören Larsen. That lead was doubled by striker Michael Thurk shortly after the break. Captain Uwe Möhre, Marcel Ndjeng and Sandor Torghelle added the further goals for the team of headcoach Jos Luhukay.

With a 3-0 at Eintracht Trier, Bundesliga side 1. FC Köln reached the quarterfinal of the German Cup. Milivoje Novakovic, Youssef Mohamad and Maniche scored the goals.

The quarter final takes place on February 9/10, the semis on March 23/24. The final is scheduled for May 15 at Berlin’s Olympic stadium.
