The U21 European champions have touched down back in Germany. The heroes landed in Frankfurt after they beat Spain 1-0 in the final in Krakow. The players and head coach Stefan Kuntz were exhausted but overjoyed as they were greeted at the airport. “It was an evening that will remain long in our memories and then we can properly celebrate,” said captain Maximilian Arnold. “You can never have too long a night in moments like this.”
Niklas Stark, who also left the plane with the trophy in his hands, was proud of the team. “We knew what we needed to do and we also knew what to do afterwards,” he said. “We stuck together as a team and it is only because of that, that we became champions of Europe. Having come through the youth teams, to finally lift the title with the boys was incredible.”
Whilst the team went out to celebrate their triumph, Stefan Kuntz took a more relaxed approach. “I celebrated with my wife,” the 54-year-old said. “Afterwards I went back to the hotel and enjoyed a glass of wine in piece and a cigar.”
