"Everyone in Germany is looking forward to the game"

An important week is on the cards for FC Bayern. After facing Mainz yesterday, they have games against Zagreb and Dortmund in the coming days. After the 3-0 victory over FSV yesterday, DFB.de spoke to Jerome Boateng about the match, Robert Lewandowski’s form and the upcoming game against Borussia Dortmund.

Question: Mr. Boateng, what are your thoughts on the side’s performance against Mainz?

Jerome Boateng: I don’t think we were that good in the first half – Mainz played well and defended strongly. After the break we stepped it up a bit, which saw us create and convert chances.

Question: On Tuesday you face Dynamo Zagreb in the Champions League. When you face sides like them, is it more a question of how emphatic the victory will be?

Boateng: Of course not, we’re talking about the Champions League here! They have already beaten Arsenal and will want to maintain their good form. We’ll start to focus on them from Sunday. If we want to do well in the competition, we have to win our home matches.

Question: How difficult is it to play against an in-form Robert Lewandowski on the training pitch?

Boateng: He’s very sharp, but obviously it’s good for us defenders to face excellent attackers and vice versa. The depth of quality on our squad means that training is a lot of fun. We’re delighted with how Robert is playing. He worked hard again against Mainz and was rewarded with two goal.

Question: Lewandowski has now netted 100 Bundesliga goals. That’s pretty impressive...

Boateng: Definitely. I’d like to congratulate him on behalf of the team. We hope that he keeps scoring. As I’ve just said, he works extremely hard in training so deserves to do well.

Question: Next Sunday you face Dortmund in what promises to be a huge match. What are your thoughts on the game?

Boateng: It’s an important game, one that we’re looking forward to. We’re the home side and will be doing all we can to win the game, but for now our attention is on Zagreb. We know that they’ve started the season strongly and that it won’t be easy. I think that everyone in Germany will be looking forward to the game.

Question: Has the game against one of your title rivals come at a good time, considering the fact that you are in a great run of form?

Boateng: We are in a good rhythm currently. We’re doing well so far this season but we keep taking things one game at a time, as we are fully aware of how quickly things can change.
