EURO 2013 All-Stars: Angerer and the Fantastic Five

Nadine Angerer and the Fantastic Five: After Germany's 1-0 win against Norway in the final of the UEFA Women's European Championship in Sweden, UEFA's technical team has announced its all-star squad for the tournament. The four-member commission nominated six DFB players in the 23-strong squad.

Germany's penalty heroine and captain Nadine Angerer was selected as Player of the Tournament after paving the way for national coach Silvia Neid's team to seal their eighth European Championship title by saving two penalties in the final.

Joining Angerer in the squad are central defenders Saskia Bartusiak and Annika Krahn, defensive midfielder Lena Goeßling, Germany's playmaker Dzsenifer Marozan and Celia Okoyino da Mbabi, scorer of two goals.

Jones: "Natze was a masterful leader"

"This award is the result of her incredible performances throughout the tournament", said Steffi Jones, DFB Director of Women's Football, of Angerer. "Natze was a masterful leader, so I'm delighted for her. She also played a vital role off the pitch, always taking a firm line and expressing her opinions with everyone. She had a positive impact on the team and carried them through the tournament, together with Saskia Bartusiak, Annike Krahn and Celia Okoyino da Mbabi."

The UEFA technical team shared this view after selecting five-time European champion Angerer. "She (Angerer – ed.) played each and every game at an exceptionally high level, didn't make a single mistake and had no weaknesses at all", said the commission. "She was confident in standard situations, organised her defence and her domination of the penalty box was stunning. Most importantly, she radiated a self-confidence that rubbed off on her defensive teammates."

Both Germany's final opponents Norway and hosts Sweden have four players in the all-star squad, France have five representatives, Denmark two, and Italy and Spain have one player each. Sweden's Lotta Schelin was awarded the Golden Boot as the best goalscorer of the tournament for her five goals.

The UEFA technical team consists of Jarmo Matikainen (Finland), Anne Noe (Belgium), Anna Signeul (Sweden) and Beatrice von Siebenthal (Switzerland).
