EURO 2005: Germany reaches final after 4-1 victory

Defending champions and tournament favourites Germany beat surprise semi-finalists Finland 4-1 in Preston on Wednesday to secure a place in the UEFA Women's European Championship final.

Germany, aiming for their fourth successive European triumph, scored three times in the first 12 minutes and, despite pulling back a quick goal, Finland never matched the world champions.

Two goals from midfielder Inka Grings and another from forward Conny Pohlers put Germany beyond the reach of a spirited Finnish side playing in their first major tournament.

Finn Minna Mustonen headed home at the near post from a corner on 15 minutes but a second-half solo effort from world player of the year Birgit Prinz ensured the German win.

Germany will face the winner of Thursday's semi-final between Sweden and Norway in Sunday's final at Blackburn. In the second match of the semi finals Sweden, the winner of group A, will meet the Olympic champion of 2000, Norway, on Thursday (7.30 pm CEST).
