Emre Can’s Liverpool on the heels of Chelsea

Emre Can’s Liverpool and Ilkay Gündogan and Leroy Sané’s Manchester City remain in hot pursuit of league leaders Chelsea. Liverpool, coached by Jürgen Klopp, triumphed 2-0 over Sunderland with two late goals from Divok Origi (75’) and James Milner (90’, penalty), while Manchester City won 2-1 against Burnley. Both teams are level on points (30), just one behind Chelsea at the summit of the Premier League table. Antonio Conte’s men also picked up three points today, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1.

Manchester City forward Sergio Agüero was on target twice in his side’s win over Burnley. They initially fell behind to the Lancashire outfit, as Dean Marney launched a stinging volley in the 14th minute. The Argentine’s brace saw his team to the win and put Agüero himself on 10 goals in the Premier League so far this season, level with Chelsea’s Diego Costa. Sané came on in the 57th minute for Raheem Sterling, while former Dortmund man Gündogan was not in the squad after starting against Borussia Mönchengladbach in midweek.

Chelsea set the pace at the top of the Premier League again, beating Spurs 2-1 at Stamford Bridge. Antonio Conte’s side initially fell behind thanks to Christian Eriksen’s 11th minute strike, but goals from Pedro on the stroke of half time and Victor Moses shortly after were enough to give Chelsea the vital win, as Spurs lost for the first time this season.

Ron-Robert Zieler was able to celebrate a late point for his Leicester City side against Middlesbrough. The reigning champions drew level at 2-2 in the dying moments to prevent their losing streak stretching to three games. Alvaro Negredo had twice put the visitors in the lead, but they were twice pegged back when Riyad Mahrez and Islam Slimani each netted from the penalty spot.
