Emre Can scores during Liverpool rout

Germany international Emre Can helped Liverpool secure a thumping 6-0 victory at Aston Villa in the Premier League, scoring the third of the game and his first league goal of the season. Daniel Sturridge, James Milner, Divock Origi, Nathaniel Clyne and Kolo Toure provided the other goals for Jürgen Klopp’s team.

It was a vital victory for Liverpool, who recorded just one win from their previous six games. They are currently in eighth place with 38 points, just three points adrift of the European qualifying places.

Özil guides Arsenal to victory

World Champion Mesut Özil provided his 17th assist of the season and it was a crucial one. It secured Arsenal a late 2-1 home victory over table toppers Leicester City and former Germany international Robert Huth in the top fixture of Premier League matchday 26.

Leicester City striker Jamie Vardy converted from the spot just ahead of the break to give the visitors a lead with this 19th goal of the season. Leicester were on course for their first victory in over 42 years at the home of the Gunners, but the sending off of Daniel Simpson allowed Arsenal to take control and equalise through Theo Walcott with 20 minutes left to play. Substitute Danny Welbeck grabbed a late winner following Özil’s well-timed free kick in the fifth minute of stoppage time.
