Elite Cup: Germany U19s celebrate title win!

The U19 national team won the Elite Cup last night after a 2-2 draw with Scotland in Reutlingen. Germany can celebrate winning the competition unbeaten. "It was a very intense game against a well organised team who moved between attack and defense very quickly," said coach Marcus Sorg, who praised the morale of his team after coming back from being behind twice. "The team showed hunger to win at the end of the game. They wanted the tournament and they got it."

2782 spectators witnessed the exciting game at the stadium at Kreuzeiche, as Germany had to use all their ability to keep Scotland at bay. The best chance of the game fell to Philipp Ochs, but he just missed the opportunity to put Germany into the lead. It went a lot better at the beginning for the visitors, as Kiltie put away a penalty in the 17th minute. Germany had lots of possession in the opening stages, and Joshua Bitter hit the bar after a good piece of play.

Besuschkow and Serdar score for Germany

Four minutes after the break, Max Besuschkow nodded the ball home to get the equaliser, but they would only be level for three minutes, before they picked the ball out of their own net again. Aiden Nesbitt left Reimann no chance in goal and put Scotland 2-1 up. Germany showed courage and kept their heads high and kept going, and eventually the equaliser came. Suat Serdar of Mainz brought Germany level for the second time in the game.

Thanks to the previous two wins for the U19s and the 2-2 draw, Germany U19s could celebrate winning the competition which is a good trial for the European Championships. Sorg was pleased with his team. "It was a very good tournament and well organised. We can draw a lot of conclusions from the overall competition. Our opponents demanded a lot from us."
