Duisburg miss out on first win - Bielefeld celebrate derby victory

MSV Duisburg conceded a last-minute equaliser against Greuther Fürth, as they continue to look for their first win of the season. Arminia Bielefeld on the other hand celebrated a 2-1 victory at SC Paderborn to climb into ninth place of the league table.

Stiepermann stuns Duisburg with late strike

The game between Duisburg and Fürth started slowly and it wasn’t until Martin Dausch struck a free kick onto the woodwork in the 30th minute that the home crowd started come alive. Fürth's Marco Stiepermann also hit the crossbar at the other end just two minutes later.

Rolf Feltscher scored the opener with ten minutes remaining in the first half. It was the first time that Bielefeld having a lead in the league this season. It didn’t last for long though, as Jürgen Gjasula converted from the spot just five minutes after the restart to level the score. Dausch had brought down Gjasula in the area, prompting referee Arne Aarnink to point to the spot.

Duisburg didn't let their heads drop, however, and looked to regain their lead. They were rewarded for their efforts when Steffen Bohl fired them back into the lead with a 73rd minute header. Duisburg were on course for their first win of the season, but Stiepermann bagged an injury time equaliser to give Fürth a 2-2 draw.

Bielefeld, winless so far after five matchdays in the 2. Bundesliga, started brightly and immediately put the pressure on the hosts. Skipper Fabian Klos and Christoph Hemlein recorded the game’s first chances, while Paderborn struggled with their attacking efforts. Midway through the first half however, the relegated Bundesliga side started to wake up and take control of the game. Nick Proschwitz slotted home from ten yards shortly after the half-hour mark.

The visitors were able to score the equaliser shortly after the break thanks to a firmly struck Brian Behrendt free kick. The game then looked to be heading towards a draw, with neither side really investing enough to win, but a wonderfully curved shot from Michael Görlitz in the 78th minute provided Bielefeld with their first win of the season and bragging rights for the derby win. Paderborn on the other hand continue to struggle with just three points from five games. Including last season, they have now lost their last five home matches.
