Duisburg and Dresden secure victories

MSV Duisburg, a Bundesliga founding member, have fought their way back to the top of the 3rd division. The Zebras secured an extremely narrow 3-2 home victory against Wehen Wiesbaden to reduce the gap between themselves and top of the table Arminia Bielefeld to three points. The visitors, on the other hand, have dropped down to seventh place, but are also just four points adrift of top spot.

Kevin Scheidhauer scored the opener for the hosts after 18 minutes from a corner but Patrick Funk equalised with ten minutes left to play in the first half. Kingsley Onuegbu put Duisburg back in the lead (76’) but Wiesbaden responded again with the equaliser in the 80th minute from Jose-Pierre Vungiudica. Zlatko Janjic settled the game for Duisburg with two minutes left on the clock.

Fetsch scores a hat-trick in Dresden win

Dynamo Dresden are also back in the race for promotion courtesy of a 3-1 away-win against Hanso Rostock. Dresden are now level on points with Duisburg, while Rostock drop into the relegation zone. Mathias Fetsch bagged a hat-trick, while Julian Jakobs equalised to make it 1-1 in the second half.

Referee Daniel Siebert was forced to interrupt the match for several minutes in the second half, as pyrotechnics were being used in the stands. Both teams have encountered these issues before in the recent past and thus are under special surveillance.

Halle stun Osnabrück

Hallescher FC secured a surprising 2-1 home victory against VfL Osnabrück, who could have put themselves level with table toppers Duisburg had they won the match. Marco Engelhardt (13’) and Tim Kruse (36’) gave Halle a two goal lead at half time. Osnabrück were reduced to ten men in the second half but still managed to get a goal back through Massimo Ornatelli (65’). The victory gives Halle a nine point cushion on the relegation zone.

Unterhaching seal last-minute victory

SpVgg Unterhaching managed a last-minute victory in a spectacular 4-2 victory against RW Erfurt. Thiel (41’) and Widemann (57’) both scored equalisers for the hosts after Kammlott (5’) and Möhwald (45’) had given Erfurt the lead. Schwarz (88’) and Widemann again (90’) fired Unterhaching to a late victory. Unterhaching are now 15th with 22 points to their name, while Erfurt drop down to 10th on 29 points.

The only goalless game was between Stuttgarter Kickers and Holstein Kiel. Neither team was able to assert themselves in a poor quality match. The stalemate draw was the deserved result. A victory could have seen both teams join the leaders in the standings, but they remain in 8th and 9th with 29 points each.

Mainz move out of relegation zone thanks to Sliskovic’s brace

FSV Mainz 05 reserve team secured a vital 2-0 victory against Chemnitzer FC to climb into 17th place and thus move out of the relegation zone. Petar Sliskovic (40’and 48’) scored either side of the break before Anton Fink pulled one back in the 69th minute. Chemnitz remain in mid-table after this defeat.

Bottom side Jahn Regensburg are already seven points adrift from getting out of the relegation zone after losing 1-0 away to Fortuna Köln. This was their tenth defeat from 12 games this season. Sascha Marquet scored the winning goal for Fortuna, who climb into 12th place following this win.
