Draxler: "We can do a lot better"

After the game come the microphones. Reporters ask, players answer. DFB.de have summarised the most important points from the Germany internationals involved. What do the players have to say about their performances? Today it’s the turn of Mats Hummels, Julian Draxler, Kevin Großkreutz and Manuel Neuer.

VfL Wolfsburg 1-1 1. FC Köln

Julian Draxler: We were determined to leave the pitch with all three points, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. I don’t think we played very well, and weren’t able to find the right passes - we can do a lot better. The ball just won’t end up in the back of the net for us. It’s a shame that the fans are booing, but I can understand the discontent.

Timo Horn: It was a very different game to Stuttgart in terms of performance. We didn’t sit back at all, and pushed forward at every opportunity. - the equaliser was deserved.

Borussia Dortmund 2-0 FC Ingolstadt

Mats Hummels: I can understand the frustration of the Ingolstadt players - conceding an offside goal, which was clearly shown on the video screen. I am a big advocate of video technology. It is very important that only fair goals are allowed.

Bayern München 2-0 1899 Hoffenheim

Manuel Neuer: Games like these aren’t easy. You are always waiting for the first goal. We did very well to take the lead, and didn’t give them any chances at all really.

Sebastian Rudy: We tried to stay compact and hit them on the break. We did exactly that, but didn’t make use of our chance. Bayern score their goals, and so that’s how you end up losing 2-0.

Niklas Süle: Bayern were a lot better in the first half. We worked hard, and had our chance. Same story after the break, it was a touch match for us.

Darmstadt 98 0-2 Schalke 04

Max Meyer: Taking the lead was very important today, especially given the conditions. Playing on this pitch wasn’t easy but we embraced the fight. Scoring the second goal right after the break was clearly a key to success today. We were able to play down the clock after that. We are very happy about these three points after losing to Bremen last weekend. It was the perfect response and one we can build on.

Leroy Sané: Following our defeat against Bremen last weekend, we knew we had show up today and we did. For the full 90 minutes, we displayed that we can have stability in our defence. The pitch didn’t allow us to play wonderful football, which meant we had to play a lot of high balls forward. This isn’t particularly one of our strengths, but we still managed to produce a good performance. We knew that we would need a fighting performance today and that it wouldn’t be an easy game. We gave everything today and considering the situation around this game and the conditions, we put in a strong performance.

VfB Stuttgart 2-1 Hamburger SV

Kevin Großkreutz: We are a team, both on and off the pitch. We give everything for one and other, we keep creating chances and we got our reward eventually. First and foremost, we need to climb off the bottom, we’ve got Frankfurt next weekend - a real battle. We will keep working hard, and we will get out of there.

Lewis Holtby: It’s important for us to focus on the next game and pick up points against Köln. We lost the ball too often, and Stuttgart countered well. We could have scored the crucial goal, but didn’t make use of the chance. We all changed our studs ahead of the game, it just didn’t work out for us on the pitch. We need to win our next two home matches against Köln and Gladbach. But if we play like we did today, then we won’t be getting any points.
