Dr. Theo Zwanziger elected tenth DFB president

During the extraordinary „Bundestag“ on September 8, 2006 at Frankfurt/Main Dr Theo Zwanziger was elected as the tenth DFB president. A convincing majority voted for Zwanziger. The 61 year-old was the only candidate and was already nominated unanimously by the five regional and 21 state associations as well as by the DFB executive committee and the member council of the league association.

The former DFB treasurer thus becomes Gerhard Mayer-Vorfelders successor. Mayer-Vorfelder did not run for presidency in Frankfurt anymore. Since the DFB „Bundestag“ in 2004 in Osnabrück Zwanziger and Mayer-Vorfelder ruled jointly, as executive president Zwanziger was already responsible for the fate of association.

1992 Zwanziger was elected member of DFB board of directors as representative for social integration. At the same time he was chairmen of the Rheinland football association for nine years. He was also chairman of the commission, which prepared the structural reforms of the DFB and thus contributed to the future structure of the association. The reform was passed in September 2000 in Mainz. Since being elected as treasurer at the DFB Bundestag in Magdeburg on April 28, 2001 he belongs to the DFB executive committee and was vice-president of the World Cup 2006 organising committee since 2003.
