The evening game saw Bayer 04 Leverkusen face Schalke 04. After a sluggish first half, the home side took the lead through Hakan Calhanoglu's delightful 53rd minute free kick. Dortmund’s Bundesliga blues continue, as they suffered a 1-0 home defeat to Hannover 96 just three days after their impressive 4-0 away victory to Galatasaray in the Champions League. BVB are now without a win in six league games. Hiroshi Kiyotake scored for the visitors on the hour mark with a stunning free kick. It was Hannover’s first away goal of the season, as Dortmund’s bad run of form in the Bundesliga continues.
Veh’s Stuttgart record a thrilling 5-4 victory in Frankfurt
Armin Veh returned to his old stomping ground with new club VfB Stuttgart and guided his new employers to victory. A thrilling 90 minutes in Frankfurt produced nine goals. Martin Harnik (34’ and 36’), Christian Gentner (51’ and 84’) and Timo Werner (81’) scored for Stuttgart; Alexander Madlung (21’ and 65’), Alex Meier (57’) and Stefan Aigner (61’) were on target for the hosts.
Hoffenheim extend their unbeaten record
TSG 1899 Hoffenheim are now unbeaten in 10 Bundesliga games after beating SC Paderborn 1-0. Kevin Volland grabbed the winner in the 73rd minute to spare Sebastian Rudy’s blushes. The Germany international missed a fifth minute penalty. Victory means that TSG are still within touching distance of table toppers FC Bayern München.
