Dortmund regain top spot

Borussia Dortmund have regained top spot from Bayern München. Thomas Tuchel’s men beat Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 on Sunday thanks to goals from Jonas Hofmann, Shinji Kagawa and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Elsewhere this evening, FC Augsburg picked up their first win of the season as a result of a 2-0 victory over Hannover.

Hofmann gives BVB the lead

After a hectic, albeit balanced, opening period Henrikh Mkhitaryan (14’), İlkay Gündoğan (15’) and Hofmann (18’) all had chances to give the hosts the lead in quick succession but none of them converted. The wait for a goal didn’t last long, however, as the latter fired home after a Bernd Leno error just seconds after his first effort. Javier Hernández almost grabbed an immediate equaliser but he fluffed his lines when well placed.

The second half also started in a lively manner with both sides having chances. Dortmund’s Aubameyang (47’/51’) and Leverkusen‘s Hernández (53’) all came close to getting their names on the scoresheet but it was Shinji Kagawa who had the honour. He slotted home after great effort from Mkhitaryan and Gündoğan shortly before the hour mark. Aubameyang’s penalty with 16 minutes to play put the icing on the cake for BVB.

Augsburg notch first win

FC Augsburg deservedly beat Hannover 96 2-0 thanks to two quickfire goals earlier. Alexander Esswein put them in front (29’) and the lead was doubled from the spot just three minutes later from the spot by Paul Verhaegh. Hannover’s best chance of the half came from Hiroshi Kiyotake just moments before the interval but his dangerous effort was kept out.

FCA remained on top after the break and could have extended their lead through Tim Matavz (59’/61’). The visitors failed to create any chances in the second period, meaning the Swabians grabbed their first three points of the season at the fifth time of asking.
