Dortmund knocked out of Champions League

Borussia Dortmund have missed the opportunity to progress to the quarterfinal of the Champions League. The German side were beaten 3-0 by Juventus, after losing the first leg 2-1, and were therefore eliminated from the competition. Carlos Tevez shocked the BVB fans with a long range effort in the third minute; Alvaro Morata doubled the lead in the 70th minute, before Tevez scored again in the 79th to seal the win.

The match began with ear-shattering cheers from the fans who were in the mood for a feat of attacking football. Though it was Juventus who struck first after Tevez’s 20 yard strike flew into the top corner.

Early goal shocks BVB

The Argentinian’s goal had an impact. Knowing that they needed to score at least two in order to ensure at least extra-time against Juventus, it took Dortmund a few minutes to relax into the game. The goal certainly favoured the Serie A leaders. After a quick break, Weidenfeller was forced to parry Stephan Lichensteiner’s long range effort to stop an early second.

Just before half time, BVB, encouraged by the fans, started putting pressure on Juventus. Juve had to withstand some heavy pressure from Dortmund in their penalty area, though mainly from set pieces. Dortmund, however, failed to create any real chances.

BVB run their socks off, Juve score

The second half started just as quickly as the first, but this time Roman Weidenfeller won the one-on-one battle with Morata. For all of Dortmund’s efforts, Juve were the ones creating chances; Weidenfeller once again saving from Morata.

Dormund had more possession, but couldn’t break down the Italian sides’ solid defence. Kevin Kampl tested keeper Gianluigi Buffon in the 63rd minute, but never really came close to scoring. Neven Subotic’s deflected shot from 20 yards came close, however, brushing just past the post.

Not long after, the decisive goals game for the Italians, as Tevez beat the offside trap and Morata finished cooly into the empty net from six yards. Tevez sealed the win with his second.
