Favorite VfB Stuttgart beat Second League team 1. FC Köln. Christian Genter (31.) and Vedad Ibisevic (36.) scored Stuttgarts goals, Christian Clemens (80.) struck for Köln.

VfL Wolfsburg won the duel between two Bundesliga-teams against Bayer Leverkusen 2-1 (0-1). In this match the Lower Saxonies turned a leeway into a victory. In a game between Second League teams VfL Bochum beat 1860 München 3-0 (1-0). Defender Marcel Maltritz scored two goals.

On Tuesday record winners FC Bayern München, SC Freiburg and FSV Mainz 05 qualified for the quarterfinals of the DFB Cup, wihle Third League side Kickers Offenbach realized another surprise by beating Bundesliga team Fortuna Düsseldorf 2-0.

München had the better of bavarian rivals FC Augsburg, when Mario Gomez and Xherdan Shaqiri scored to secure a 2-0 win. Mainz eliminated favorites Schalke 04 in their own stadium 2-1. SC Freiburg beat Third League team Karlsruher SC 1-0.
