FC Rielasingen-Arlen were elated with the first round draw of the 2017/18 DFB-Pokal, and now Dorfmerkingen captain Christian Zech wants to set up a fan club for Sebastian Kehl, who helped with the draw. Newly promoted Regionalliga side VfB Germania Halberstadt could also hardly believe their luck, as it just so happened that their first round game will feature a contest between a father and son on opposing sides, with Halberstadt’s manager Andreas Peterson facing his son Nils and SC Freiburg. Reinhard Grindel (DFB President): There was a great atmosphere in the Museum of Football. I hope that the joy of the amateur clubs is just as prevalent when it comes to the televised games. We’re expecting great fixtures with a lot of history in them.
Christian Zech (Dorfmerkingen captain): It’s a dream come true for me personally. Leipzig captain Dominik Kaiser and I played together at Germania Gmünd, and now I’ll be playing against him. Mr. Kehl, I think we’ll be forming a fan club for you!
Christian Mokosch (VfB Germania Halberstadt director): The manager was hoping for it to play out like this yesterday. We’ve achieved promotion this year, and now we’re in the first round of the DFB-Pokal. It just had to be.
