"Die Mannschaft" in cinemas from 13th November

Captain Philipp Lahm in the pool, Thomas Müller in a Dirndl and manager Joachim Löw working meticulously on his tactics in private: The World Cup film “Die Mannschaft”, in cinemas from 13th November, takes an exciting behind-the-scenes look at the World Champions’ story of Brazil 2014.

In a newly-released trailer for the 90-minute movie, we see Lahm giving a motivational speech, Christoph Kramer showing off his singing skills and Per Mertesacker busting his moves on the dancefloor.

"Germany have a team"

The film, which will premiere in Berlin on 10th November with the World Cup heroes set to attend, underlines the special team mentality as the decisive factor in the DFB-Team winning their fourth title. “Brazil have Neymar. Argentina have Messi. Portugal have Ronaldo. Germany have a team!” That motto, taken from a tweet posted by then England captain Steven Gerrard following the 7-1 semi-final triumph over Brazil, is the central theme of the film.

DFB staff Martin Christ (camera), Jens Gronheid (editor) and Uli Vogt are behind the movie. The association was also able to get Tom Spieß from production company Little Shar Entertainment to do the production – he was also involved in the 2006 film “Germany. A Summer Fairytale”. There is more of a documentary feel to this latest production compared to that Sönke Wortmann film though. We follow the team right from their preparations in South Tyrol, through to their triumph in Rio and ending with the party at the Fan Mile in Berlin.

In cooperation with FIFA, footage from the matches is also included in the movie. “Experience the FIFA World Cup like never before,” it says in the trailer. Löw has labelled the film as “fascinating.” We find out, for example, just how Müller’s unusual free-kick trick in the last 16 against Algeria came to be. “Whoever thought that I just tripped is very much mistaken,” he says. We even see pictures from training, which show the FC Bayern forward practising the routine.
