Joachim Löw explained his decision: “The slightest mistake will decide whether we progress or have to go home in the knockout rounds. We want to stay in France for as long as possible. That is why it is important for us to have a period of rest ahead of our last 16 clash, in order to give the players the opportunity to recover.”
