DFB Women’s Cup draw

The draw for the first round of the 2016/17 DFB Women’s Cup was made in Frankfurt on Friday. The event was managed by former Bundesliga boss Tina Theune. 24 ties were drawn in total. The clashes will take place towards the end of August (20th-21st).

The sides who finished in the top eight of last season’s Allianz Frauen-Bundesliga were awarded byes, however, four top-flight clubs will be entering the competition in August. Bayer 04 Leverkusen travel to second-division side 1. FFC Niederkirchen, MSV Duisburg visit the Regionalliga‘s SV Alberweiler, Borussia Mönchengladbach head to Karlsruhe and SC Sand face Wetzlar.

A total of 56 teams will compete in this edition of the competition. Holders VfL Wolfsburg and Bundesliga winners FC Bayern München enter the tournament in the second round. The final will be played in Cologne in May 2017.
