DFB Women: Neid picks her squad of 23 for USA trip

Women’s national team coach Silvia Neid has called up goalkeeper Almuth Schult to her squad of 23 for the SheBelieves Cup in the USA, after the Wolfsburg keeper recovered from her foot injury. The Germany women’s national team has been invited to take part in the tournament, which will take place between the 3rd March and 9th March. First they will play France in Tampa, Florida on 3rd March, before facing England in Nashville on 6th March. Their final game of the tournament will take place on 9th March in Boca Raton, Florida, where Germany will take on world champions the USA.

Silvia Neid said, “We are looking forward to the opportunity to play in such a high-quality competition against world-class opponents, such as France, England and the USA. These teams will test every area of our game. First and foremost though, games of this calibre give us a chance to develop our players in every respect.”

Neid must do without Laudehr

Neid will have to do without Simone Laudehr, who will be in the middle of an exam period while the tournament is taking place. She will also be unable to call upon Bianca Schmidt, Jennifer Cramer and Pauline Bremer due to injuries.

The SheBelieves Cup is the first test for the women’s national team ahead of the Olympic Games in Rio from 3rd till 19th of August. The team also has European Cup qualifiers on 8th April in Turkey and on 12th April against Croatia. Their full preparation for the Olympics will begin at the end of June and they have planned four training camps between then and their flight to Rio on 27th July.
