DFB Women face Ghana in Paderborn

Germany Women’s opponent in their last international match before their journey to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been confirmed. Head coach Silvia Neid’s team will go up against Ghana in Paderborn on 22nd July (18:00 CEST, live on ARD).

The national team’s general manager, Doris Fitschen, says: “Ghana were our first-choice opponents because we desperately wanted to test ourselves against an African team to round up our preparation for the Olympics. Their style of play is very similar to our first opposition at the Games, Zimbabwe. We will contest the match using our entire 18-player Olympic squad.”

Three training courses before Rio

The DFB Women begin their preparation for the Olympic Games on 20th July in Grassau. Then they have three more arrangements on their schedule: from 3rd to 8th July in Barsinghausen, from 11th to 15th July in Bad Gögging and from 18th to 23rd July in Paderborn. The game against Ghana will also take place during this period.

Before the journey to Brazil, the squad will meet in Frankfurt on 27th July, before going to Sao Paulo on 29th July. There, Silvia Neid’s team will face Zimbabwe in their first group match of the Olympic football tournament on 3rd August. Their other opponents are Australia on 6th August and Canada on 9th August.
