DFB will establish permanent representation in Brussels

The Presidential Board of the German Football Association has decided to establish a close partnership with the "Office of German Sports" in Brussels. "Sports in general, but even more so football, have to play a role in Brussels. We need to establish our presence at the European institutions, we need to argue for our interests", said DFB President Dr. Theo Zwanziger. "We need to cultivate a continuous report with the European Parliament, also to refine the judicial framework of football for years to come."

Because of the impressive reputation, the EU "Office of German Sports" now handles the groundwork for seven nations as well as the European Olympic Committee. It started operations in Brussel in 1993. The DFB will establish a permanent position within this office.

Topics determined and decided by the European Parliament that affect football directly range from quotas for native players, the role of player agents or financial compensations for a game of the national team.

Contractual issues, the protection of juvenile players, doping regulations, preemptive campaigns against violence and racism in the stadiums, broadcasting rights as well as issues regarding sports betting are increasingly decided in Brussels.
