DFB welcome Daniel Nivel

Daniel Nivel, the French policeman who suffered brain damage after being attacked by German hooligans at the 1998 World Cup, has been welcomed to Germany's match against Poland (1-0) in Dortmund on Wednesday.

"It's a great honour that mister Nivel accepted our invitation. We are glad to welcome him to this important match of our team", said managing president of German football federation (DFB), Dr. Theo Zwanziger, at a dinner in Dortmund.

German football federation (DFB) general secretary Horst R. Schmidt confirmed the invitation and said the 43-year-old Nivel is expected to be accompanied to the game by his wife and two sons.

Nivel spent six months in a coma after being attacked by German hooligans before the Germany vs. Yugoslavia match at the 1998 World Cup in France.
