DFB to apply for Stuttgart to host 2019 Europa League Final

The German Football Association (DFB) will apply for Stuttgart’s Mercedes-Benz Arena to host the 2019 UEFA Europa League final. The DFB committee arrived at this decision during their meeting in Frankfurt am Main on Friday. Along with Stuttgart,Frankfurt’s Commerzbank-Arena had also expressed an interest in hosting the final which is scheduled to be played on 29th May 2019.

DFB President Reinhard Grindel said, "We had two very good applications from the stadia in Stuttgart and Frankfurt. In a transparent and fair voting process, the committee chose Stuttgart because of it has the necessary requirements in place to host such an event. I’m certain that, together, we can compile a convincing application and I’m hoping that football fans in Germany will be able to look forward to hosting another major final."

UEFA to decide on venue in September

DFB is confident that Stuttgart will score highly in UEFA’s decision process, particularly on factors such as Stadium cost and stadium capacity. Stuttgart also offers very good and flexible transport links and, therefore, has the requirements to host a major final.

The DFB and the stadium in Stuttgart have until 6th June 2017 to submit their full application to UEFA. The European governing body will then decide on 20th September 2017 which city will host the final in 2019.
