DFB-Team back to second place in FIFA World Rankings

The World Cup winners are back to second place: In the October edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola world rankings, Die Mannschaft’s two qualification wins over Poland and Scotland have allowed them to replace Belgium at second place and close the gap on World Cup runners up Argentina to just 18 points. Current European Championship holders Spain have managed to break back into the top ten with their two Euro qualifier wins and now sit at sixth.

While Portugal jumped from sixth to fourth place, Colombia dropped from fourth to fifth, and World Cup record holders Brazil went from fifth to seventh. Wales – currently ranked at eighth – as well as eleventh placed Austria, already qualified for Euro 2016, have both never been ranked higher in the World Rankings.

For the October edition of the World Rankings, a total of 149 new games were assessed. 48 of which were qualifiers for the World Cup 2018 in Russia, twelve games were in the CONCACAF, 30 in Asia, six in Oceania. 50 games were European Championship qualifiers while the remaining 25 competitive games were carried out in Africa. Only 26 of the games were friendlies, making the total of assessed games this year 668.
