DFB presidential board confirms key dates for 2017/18 season

The presidential board of the DFB have confirmed the start and finishing dates for the 2017/18 season at a meeting in Grassau. Next year’s Bundesliga season will kick off the weekend of the 18th August 2017, whilst the Bundesliga 2 season will begin on the 28th July 2017. After matchday 18 in the Zweitliga, between the 15th and 18th December 2017, and matchday 17 of the Bundesliga on the same weekend, the two leagues will head into the winter break.

Bundesliga action will then resume on the 12th January 2018, while the Bundesliga 2 will retart on the 23rd January. Matchday 34, the last game in the Bundesliga, is due to take place on the 12th May 2018. A day later, on the 13th May 2018, the Bundesliga 2 season will come to an end.

DFB Cup to start 11th August 2017, with the final on May 19th 2018

The Drittliga will begin next season on the 21st July 2017. Following Matchday 20 from the 15th to the 17th December 2017, the Drittliga will head into the winter break before resuming action on the 19th January 2018. The final third division game is to be played on the 12th May 2018. Once the season has finished, the relegation play-offs between the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 sides, as well as the Bundesliga 2 and Drittliga teams are scheduled to take place between the 17th and the 22nd May 2018. Exact dates for these games will follow at a later date.

The first round of the DFB Cup will commence on the weekend of the 11th August 2017. The 24th and 25th October 2017 will be the dates for the second round of the cup, with the last 16 round taking place on the 19th and 20th December 2017. The quarterfinal will then follow on the 6th and 7th February 2018, before the semi-finals take place on the 17th and 18th April 2018. The final of next year’s DFB Cup will be played as usual at Olympiastadion in Berlin on the 19th May 2018.
