DFB president Dr. Theo Zwanziger re-elected

DFB president Dr. Theo Zwanziger was re-elected in his post for a further three years at the 39th biannual DFB Congress in Mainz on Friday. The 62-year-old was the sole person standing and was elected unanimously by the 256 delegates.

Many international honorary guests came to Mainz, such as the Minister of the Interior Dr. Wolfgang Schäuble, UEFA-President Michel Platini, UEFA Honorary President Lennart Johansson, UEFA General Secretary David Taylor, Jean-Pierre Escalettes, the President of the French Federation (FFF), as well as Dr. Thomas Bach, the President of the German Sports Federation (DOSB).

More than 100 media members covered the Congress, which includes a plenary session that will vote on 99 resolutions, and a ceremonial act in the Mainz State theatre.

Thursday's plenary session was devoted to the restructuring of the steering committee, which now has 18 members. Amateur-football and the Bundesliga will be presented each by one vice-president. The number of additional vice-president rises from six to nine, with one vice-president responsible for women's football, and another one in charge of youth developments. A representative of the national team can be added to the steering committee.

The increased importance of the Executive Board was given expression by adding the 21 Presidents of the state associations to the board, as well as the Presidents of the five major regional associations. From now on, the associations' strength of vote will vary: a president of a state association with more than 600,000 members will have three votes, with more than 200,000 members two votes and with less than 200,000 members one vote.
