DFB expand social-media services

The DFB are currently represented on over 20 channels on the most influential social media platforms and they have now expanded even further. English and Spanish fans have been able to follow the Germany national team on Facebook since the start of the month and can enjoy news updates, pictures, videos and a much more. Through Global Pages on Facebook, the DFB have laid down another marker in terms of their international social media strategy.

“After winning the World Cup earlier this year, we wanted to do our international fans justice and inform them about the national team more emotionally and in a more relevant way in their respective languages,” explained Media Director Ralf Köttker. Global Pages combines the German, English and Spanish Facebook pages together. However, each page has the official name (marked with a blue tick) and the cumulative number of fans of all pages. Posts will be made in the respective languages on the “country pages”.

Fans of the Germany national team that come from a German, English or Spanish speaking country, receive the content in their respective language, with all other fans automatically directed to the English page. Every Facebook User has the option to choose their preferred language in the settings. The DFB-Team’s Facebook page currently has around 4.5 million fans.

Along with Global Pages on Facebook, there is also an English Twitter account for the DFB-Team with over 200,000 followers, as well as accounts on the two key social-media platforms in China: Tencent and Sina Weibo. The DFB-Team have around 2.6 millions followers there in total.
