DFB-Delegation lays a wreath at Robert Enke’s grave

“We do not forget you” is written on the wreath’s loop that DFB-President Dr. Theo Zwanziger, Head Coach Joachim Löw and Team-Manager Oliver Bierhoff laid earlier today at Robert Enke’s grave. Germany’s national goalkeeper, who suffered from depression, took his life on Nov 10th 2009.

“It was my personal need to come here today to Robert’s grave and to remember a wonderful human being”, said Joachim Löw. DFB-President Dr. Theo Zwanziger as well had the personal wish to visit the grave for the first time personally and pay Robert Enke tribute: “On this day everybody should remember Robert Enke in his own way. For me, the short prayer in the chapel and the wreath ceremony in a small circle was the right way to deal with my thoughts.”

The DFB-delegation met together with Enke’s widow Teresa, Hannover 96- President Martin Kind, NFV-President Karl Rothmund and Fritz Willig who is a board member of the newly founded Robert-Enke-Foundation. After a short devotion in the chapel by female minister Norzel-Weiss the small circle laid two wreaths at the grave.

Fans visit Memorial at the stadium

“I would like to take the opportunity of the first anniversary of Robert’s death and express my gratitude to all the people who have been thinking and remembering Robert today and in the past months in many different ways. We appreciate it very much. Even if I was unable to answer all the many letters that still arrive every day, I want to say that the sympathy that reaches us gives me a lot of strength”, said Teresa Enke after the wreath ceremony.

During wet and cold November-weather many fans also visited the Memorial near the stadium of Hannover 96. The club arranged a special Memorial-tent at the north side of the stadium for the first anniversary of death of Germany’s former national goalkeeper.

The German Football Association (DFB), The German Football League (DFL) and Hannover 96 established within a meeting of the DFB’s executive committee in January the Robert-Enke-Foundation whose chair has been taken by Robert Enke’s widow Teresa. The foundation aids measures and initiatives that enlighten, ascertain and examine the sickness depression.
