DFB Cup: FFC Frankfurt beaten by FC Bayern again

Defending league champions FC Bayern München recorded their second win against 1. FFC Frankfurt within a week with a comfortable 2-0 home victory in the last 16 of the women's DFB Cup. Earlier on Sunday, SC Sand needed extra time to record a hard-fought 4-3 win against Herforder SV, who were relegated last season.

Following their 1-0 win in Frankfurt last Sunday, FC Bayern were noticeably confident going into this game and not even the return of Germany international Dzsenifer Marozsan from her ankle injury was enough to prevent a cup exit for FFC. FCB were in control from the starting whistle, while the visitors' attacking game rarely unfolded. The hosts took the lead after 14 minutes when Vivianne Miedema hit the top corner with a fine shot from the edge of the area. FC Bayern continued to apply pressure and doubled their lead before the break with a carbon copy of the opener: Nicole Rolser teed up Melanie Behringer, who smashed the ball into the top corner from 16 yards.

Frankfurt attempted to stage a comeback in the second half and nine minutes after the restart Mandy Islacker struck a shot from 20 yards against the woodwork. FFC had more to their play now, but were unable to find the net as Bayern secured their ticket to the quarterfinals.

Damnjanovic hat-trick gives Sand the edge

Bundesliga side SC Sand took a two-goal lead within 30 minutes after a double from their striker Jovana Damnjanovic. Herford replied five minutes into the second half with Isabelle Knipp on target, and with the hosts now pushing for an equaliser, they were rewarded in the final minute as Christabel Oduro grabbed the leveller.

Extra time was a constant back and forth battle and both teams created a fair amount of clear chances. Damnjanovic ended up making the difference, as she put Sand ahead again in the 107th minute and five minutes later Dominika Skorvankova restored Sand's two goal lead. Giustina Ronzetti's goal in the 118th minute was not enough to stage a second comeback.

Defending champions VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam, FF USV Jena and second division side 1. FC Lübars had already qualified for the quarter-finals on Saturday. The next round of the DFB Cup will be held on 8th and 9th December.
