DFB, Bundesliga and Government launch integration initiative

The Deutsche Fußball-Bund (DFB) are working alongside the Bundesliga’s foundations and the Federal Government on a new wide-ranging initiative. From this weekend the various facets of German football will be working to promote integration in society and offering support to current schemes.

As part of the International Week against Racism, DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach, Bundesliga President Dr. Reinhard Rauball and Commissioner for Immigration, Refugees and Integration Aydan Özoğuz introduced a new initiative in Berlin. The initiative will see additional support be given to projects regarding the integration of refugees into society. Roughly €1.2m has been set aside to do this over the next two years.

"Put an end to prejudice"

The aforementioned activities will also take place during the upcoming Germany international against Australia, as well as at all second and third-tier games and the Frauen-Bundesliga. At these games the DFB and Bundesliga foundations will be promoting increased integration.

In order to further raise awareness of the initiative Ilkay Gündogan, Benedikt Höwedes, Naldo and Änis Ben-Hatira as well as Nadine Keßler, a star for the women’s national team, have appeared in TV adverts.
