DFB builds world's most expansive football archive

The world's most expansive football archive of digitalized television content is currently being assembled by DFB and DFL, the German Football Association and the German Football League. With the task completed, the online archive will offer all Bundesliga games, games of the German national team and DFB Cup games on one platform.

"Access for our media partners will allow them to download memorable games of our 'Mannschaft', so that fans can then relive the excitement of past games", says Wolfgang Niersbach, General Secretary of the DFB. "We will also offer stellar games from DFB Cup history." Tom Bender, CEO of the German Football League, adds: "German football's rich tradition has been captured by the camera's eye. We want to open this treasure chest for the fans."

More than 24,000 hours of German football history are to be conserved in this comprehensive archive. With each Bundesliga season, the archive will grow by 1,000 hours or 612 games. The Cologne based company Sportcast GmbH, a subsidiary company of the DFL, is in charge of implementation.

The Norwegian Football Association is currently working at a similar solution.
