The winners will receive a Mercedes-Benz Vito, while the runners-up will receive cash prizes of 10,000 euros and 5,000 euros. The Special Award goes to Bundesliga club 1. FSV Mainz 05 for their exceptional integration efforts.

Niersbach: "Football is synonymous with integration"

"Football is synonymous with integration", said Wolfgang Niersbach. "The local football club is a place where people meet. Members of football clubs do an unbelievable amount together, overcoming language barriers or cultural differences in the process. Together with Mercedes-Benz, we have awarded the Integration Award each year since 2007. We are extremely pleased with the resonance the award has had and the quality of the submissions we receive each year."

Oliver Bierhoff said: "Football is a powerful driver of integration. Our national team demonstrates how people of different backgrounds can play together creatively and successfully." The national team manager is patron of the Award.

Minister of State Aydan Özoğuz, Ursula Schwarzenbart, Head of Daimler AG’s Global Diversity Office, DFB Integration Representative Gül Keskinler and Burkhard Jungkamp, Minister of State at the Department of Education, Youth and Sport for the Federal State of Brandenburg are the remaining members of the jury.

Ursula Schwarzenbart said: "At Mercedes-Benz, we recognised the opportunities that diversity offers, and we are making full use of them. Both science and practical experience in particular demonstrate that mixed teams solve complex problems more successfully."
