The German Football Association (DFB) has agreed a two-year contract extension with Joachim Löw, who remains national coach until July 2016. Following the final 2014 World Cup qualifier in Sweden, the DFB and Löw agreed terms on continuing their successful partnership until after EURO 2016 in France. The agreements with national team manager Oliver Bierhoff and national goalkeeping coach Andreas Köpke were also extended for a further two years beyond the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
DFB president Wolfgang Niersbach commented: "Since the 2006 World Cup, the national team has always finished in the top four at world and European Championships. The team also comfortably dealt with the recent qualifying campaign for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. A dynamic, attacking and thrilling style of play is a hallmark of the national team. All this is thanks to Joachim Löw and every member of the team responsible for sporting matters. We have great faith in Joachim Löw, Hansi Flick, Andreas Köpke and Oliver Bierhoff, who I value greatly as experts and as people. We at the DFB are emphasising our great faith with these contract extensions."
National coach Joachim Löw said: "Working with the team and the support staff gives me immense pleasure. I sense great motivation to continue the team’s development. We’ve not yet reached the end of our journey, as we still have ambitious targets which we want to achieve together. The DFB offers us and the national team the ideal environment. We are just as grateful for that as we are for the faith placed in us by the DFB and president Wolfgang Niersbach."
Following the 2014 World Cup, Hansi Flick will take over as DFB sporting director. Flick will remain national team assistant coach until after the tournament in Brazil, when he will assume the position of DFB sporting director on a five-year contract until August 2019.

The clear priority among the sporting director’s responsibilities is elite player development, incorporating all available sports expertise and scientific findings. This includes scouting methods, performance diagnostics and video analysis. Up until next year’s World Cup, the bulk of these tasks will be accomplished via existing association structures and headed up by general secretary Helmut Sandrock.
Hansi Flick said: "The World Cup in Brazil is the clear priority for Jogi Löw and me. I’m delighted and very honoured that the DFB has entrusted me with the sporting director’s wide-ranging and highly responsible portfolio of tasks after the World Cup in Brazil, and until then has given me the freedom to concentrate wholly and entirely on the World Cup. However, together with Helmut Sandrock, I will already take over coordination duties, including leadership of DFB coaching seminars. As incoming sporting director, I will devote myself to the elite sector and work to ensure the best players in Germany also have the best environment to support their continuing development. Only then can we call for world-class performances, and this must be our ambition here at the DFB."
General secretary Helmut Sandrock said: "The appointment of Hansi Flick emphasises our commitment to our elite players. The sporting director is tasked with developing a uniform playing philosophy for all representative teams; he is responsible for communications with the Bundesliga clubs and their elite academies, and he is in charge of DFB coaching operations. I’m delighted we have secured the candidate we wanted for this position with Hansi Flick, and we are convinced he will give German football significant new momentum as sporting director after the 2014 World Cup."
On the extension of Oliver Bierhoff’s contract, Helmut Sandrock said: "Oliver Bierhoff has brought the function of national team manager to life. As a member of the DFB executive committee he is a very important point of contact for us over and above national team matters. For example, this is evident in the planning process for a DFB centre of excellence."
