DFB Academy: Providing green space in the city

On 21st June the people of Frankfurt will have their say on the DFB Academy. Many feel they should vote yes as it will provide the city with plenty of new green space.

There will be plenty of space for recreational use. The surroundings will be open to anyone and will offer the chance to have peace and quiet amongst nature. Roughly half of the land will take the form of a public park.

The rest of the site will also feature plenty of greenery. Obviously a number of paths, roads and buildings will be constructed however, that should only count for 3.9 hectares of the overall location. 90% of the total land, including 75% of the academy’s premises, will remain green.

Open space

Here’s a more detailed look at how the 40 hectares of land will be used: Park (20 hectares), Green spaces (11.6 hectares), pitches (4.5 hectares), buildings (2.9 hectares) and paths (1.0 hectare).

The DFB won’t be hidden behind high walls – the aim of the academy is to be open and friendly. It’s also worth noting that the academy will not add to Frankfurt’s skyline. The DFB hope that the people of the city give the project the green light.
