DFB Academy: Good reasons to choose Frankfurt

The DFB are planning the construction of a DFB Academy. All administration and sport will have a new home in Frankfurt am Main by the end of 2018. The location in Niederrad offers a “Win-Win situation” for all: The citizens benefit, the city benefits, DFB benefit. DFB.de have collated all the good reason for having Frankfurt as the home of the DFB Academy.

Tradition

DFB headquarters have been in Frankfurt since 1951. First in Arndstraße, then in Zeppelinallee, and since 1974 in Otto-Fleck-Schneise. The signing of the building contract in January 2014 signalled the decision by the DFB to stay in Frankfurt for the long term (99 years). 90 clubs belong to the footballing family in Frankfurt.

Locals

The new location has more to offer fans, such as sport, guest services, a fan shop and good transport links. There are also some interesting special events that will take place (open days for fans, 1st and youth team training sessions and matches that are open to the public). Directly north of the DFB site will be a large, and free to enter, public park. This will give the people of Frankfurt another place to enjoy their leisure time with long walks and excursions. The retail trade will also benefit. The sporting areas around the academy buildings will need to meet high ecological standards, built for the long term and link up with the neighbouring public park. For the benefit of the public, the city is planning a public green area that will extend to the banks of the Main.

The DFB organises and hosts around 200 days/workshops or meetings each year. In total this amounts to around 11,500 overnight stays each year, though this is expected to grow to 15,000. With the Academy, these figures will continue to grow.
