Defeat for Özil's Arsenal at Everton

World champion Mesut Özil and Arsenal have suffered just their second defeat of the season and have therefore missed the chance to move top of the Premier League table. Arsene Wenger’s side were on a run of three consecutive victories but went down 2-1 to Everton despite having taken the lead. German defenders Shkodran Mustafi and Per Mertesacker were both absent through injury.

The London club, who will face Bayern München in the Champions League round of 16, remain three points behind league leaders Chelsea despite playing a game more.

Eighth defeat for Leicester with Zieler and Huth

Wales international Ashley Williams secured the winner for the Merseyside club in the 86th minute. Seamus Coleman had earlier grabbed the equaliser just before half time after Alexis Sanchez’s twelfth goal of the season had given the Gunners an early lead.

The other Premier League game of the evening saw champions Leicester City suffer their eighth defeat of the season. The Foxes started with Ron-Robert Zieler in goal and Robert Huth in defence but were beaten 1-0 at Bournemouth thanks to Marc Pugh’s goal just after half an hour. They are now in 14th place with just 16 points on the board.
