Darmstadt snatch a point in Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund dropped points for the second game in a row on matchday seven, meaning they failed to close the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayern München. BVB conceded an injury time equaliser to newly promoted Darmstadt 98 in this evening’s 2-2 draw. They are now four points behind the Bavarians.

The Lilies gave a good account of themselves in Signal Iduna Park and they made life tough for the Dortmund attackers early on. Dirk Schuster’s side then went up the other end and scored with their first effort of the game. Marcel Heller’s powerful 17th minute volley, from a pinpoint Jerome Gondorf cross, flew past BVB keeper Roman Bürki and into the back of the net to give the visitors a shock lead.

Borussia stepped it up after the break and they were rewarded when World Cup winner Matthias Ginter set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s 63rd minute equaliser. The Gabon international fired them in front with his ninth goal of the season (71’) after great work from Manchester United loanee Adnan Januzaj. Aubameyang has now scored on every matchday of the season to date, extending his recording of consecutive games scored in, in the process. However, the drama wasn’t over yet as Darmstadt skipper Aytac Sulu rifled home an injury time equaliser.
