Dallmann, Kayikci and Klasen earn first international call-up

Head coach Steffi Jones has given three players their first international call-ups for the upcoming EURO qualifiers against Russia on 16th September (18:00 CEST) and Hungary on 20th September (16:00 CEST). Jones has named SGS Essen midfielders Linda Dallmann (22) and Jacqueline Klasen (22) in her squad for the first time alongside SC Freiburg striker Hasret Kayikci (24).

“Our European Championships qualification campaign begins with the matches in Russia and Hungary,” said Jones. “We want to prioritise instilling our game philosophy, trying out different things and giving interesting players a chance in the five international matches we have left this year. Linda Dallmann, Jacqueline Klasen and Hasret Kayikci are the players who attracted our attention and we want to see them play for the national team. Saskia Bartusiak, Annike Krahn and Melanie Behringer have all recently announced their retirements from international football. We urgently need to fill in the gaps they have left in the team.”

Some key players won’t feature

FC Bayern München’s Verena Faißt returns to the squad. Due to injury, Simone Laudehr (torn knee ligament) and Dzsenifer Marozsan (muscle problems) will not feature in the squad. Olympic winners Leonie Maier, Sara Däbritz, Melanie Leupolz, Laura Benkarth and Alexandra Popp will all be rested. Goalkeeping coach Thomas Roy is available for both matches.

“In agreement with club coaches and the players themselves we have deliberately decided to give some of the Olympic squad players a rest,” explains Jones. I am very happy with the way the team is working together so far since the introduction of our sporting concept at the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga conference on 24th August. The feedback has been very positive. Our goal is to continue to encourage communication on all levels. That is very important for us.”

The Women’s squad will meet up for their first training session with their new coach on Monday in Frankfurt. The team will train there for two days before they play to Moscow on Wednesday afternoon. The matches against Russia and Hungary are part of the European Championship qualification campaign. However, Germany women’s team have already qualified for the tournament which takes places in Holland in 2017.
