Dahoud: Key to the new look U21s

Mahmoud Dahoud has played in 6 out of 7 Bundesliga games for his new club Borussia Dortmund. In total so far, the 21-year-old has played 300 minutes for the table toppers and assisted 3 of Dortmund’s 21 goals this season. Also, Dahoud has made two appearances in the Champions League and got two assists in BVB’s match in the first round of the DFB Pokal.

Mahmoud Dahoud, who is called Mo by all close to him, has settled into well to his new surroundings and has played his part in BVB’s most successful start in the club’s history. “I’ve done well so far here”, said Dahoud himself. “It helps of course that we’ve started the season so well and the modd in the camp is great. We want build upon our performances so far in the weeks ahead and play a role in the later stages of the Champions League.”

At BVB, Syrian born midfielder Dahoud is one of the most promising players in BVB head coach Peter Bosz’s squad. Dahoud made his first Bundesliga appearance at the other Borussia – namely Borussia Möchengladbach and also had his first taste of Champions League football there but he’s ready for the next stage of his development at BVB. “BVB is a great place for young players and it’s been like that for a long time”, said Dahoud. “You’re demanded to work at a high level in every single training session and that really helps the development of young players here.” Besides, Dahoud also has established Bundesliga professionals such as Nuri Sahin and Gonzalo Castro and even World Cup winner Mario Götze available to talk to and to receive advice from.

Dahoud on the U21s: “We’re hungry”

Mo Dahoud wants to bring his experience to help out the Germany U21 national team. In the summer, Mo was part of the team that won the European Championships in Poland and Dahoud is without doubt one of the key players in U21s head coach Stefan Kuntz’s newly-formed side. Dahoud is now one of the most experienced faces in the U21s squad and is excited to get underway with the new-look U21s. “You can see how hungry we are as a group”, added Dahoud. “Many young players are in the squad who are only just starting their development and want to make their breakthrough.”

Dahoud knows that situation well and he too is hungry for the upcoming European Championships qualification fixtures against Azerbaijan on Friday and in Norway: “They are two tough matches and we can’t give anyone a look in. We want to win so we have maximum points and three wins from three in qualifying.”

Though the team around him has changed, Dahoud’s role within hasn’t: “I already had quite a lot of responsibility in the side. I play in the centre, demand the ball and want to distribute it well.”
