Dahoud and Mukhtar in U20 squad for Italy and Poland clashes

The Germany U20 national side go into their upcoming fixtures with a 23-man squad, consisting of Osnabrück goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe, who will play in his home town, Bundesliga regular Mahmoud Dahoud, and several players from the team that won the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup. The aim will be to back up their impressive performances from their recent tournament win as Frank Wormuth's side first take on Italy at the 'osnatel Arena' in Osnabrück on 12th November, before facing Poland at the 'Preußenstadion' in Münster four days later.

Wormuth named his squad for the international matches today. 19 of the players were involved at the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup, including Marvin Schwäbe. The VfL Osnabrück goalkeeper will get the chance to play an international match in his club side's stadium.

Wormuth: "We're a work in progress"

Four other players have been named in the squad, including Mahmoud Dahoud. The Borussia Mönchengladbach player has been out through injury but is now able to return to the side. In addition, Hany Mukhtar (Red Bull Salzburg), Marius Wolf (1860 München) and Kevin Akpoguma (Fortuna Düsseldorf) have been called up.

"We want to continue what we did successfully at the Mercedes-Benz Elite Cup," said DFB manager Frank Wormuth. The team recorded wins against Turkey (1-0), Holland (2-1) and England (1-0) to take the title. They implemented a clear philosophy: bring the ball forward, find solutions and put opponents under pressure. "We're a work in progress, and we have certain aspects that need to be tweaked," said Wormuth.

Attention to detail in the final third is the priority for the 23-man squad. "It's been a constant issue for us," said Wormuth. "We always create a lot of chances but we don't take advantage enough. We want to improve on that and take the next steps forwards."
