Däbritz: "It couldn't have gone any better"

FC Bayern München's women side managed a successful return to the Allianz Women's Bundesliga in their bid to defend the title. They recorded a 3-1 victory over 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on matchday 1 with new signing Sara Däbritz providing a brace of goals.

The Germany international spoke with DFB.de after the game and discussed her successful start at FC Bayern, her goals with the club and the upcoming game with newly promoted side 1. FC Köln.

DFB.de: Miss Däbritz, you scored two goals in the 3-1 win over Turbine Potsdam. Was it the perfect start for you at your new club?

Sara Däbritz: Yes of course it was. I don't know if it could have gone any better. You never really know where you are at when the season begins. That's why it was so important to collect three points. They will give us confidence and energy for the upcoming challenges. Scoring two goals was great, but it was far more important that the team won. It's great that the season is back underway. Pre-season was very long and hard work but we are prepared well which we showed today. Hopefully we can keep it going.

DFB.de: A victory to start the new campaign at your new club must feel like a relief.

Däbritz: It feels great. If I said anything else it wouldn't be believable. But I also want to point out, that no one put me under a lot of pressure. I was received extremely well from the first day and feel very comfortable here at FC Bayern. It wasn't difficult to get integrated, as I know a lot of the players from the national team. But overall there are certainly differences between Bayern and Freiburg.

DFB.de: Please explain.

Däbritz: Everything feels slightly more professional here. Freiburg is a club aimed at developing players and that's why it was the right decision to go there when I was still 17 years old. The timing was right for me to take the next step and join a bigger club like FC Bayern.

DFB.de: Was playing international football also an aspect that drew you towards FC Bayern?

Däbritz: Yes, it was. We are all looking forward to the Champions League but will not allow ourselves to neglect the Allianz Women's Bundesliga or the DFB Cup. We've set high aims for ourselves in each competition. I'm excited to find out how we will cope balancing three competitions.

DFB.de: Is one of your goals to defend the Allianz Women's Bundesliga title?

Däbritz: It's still too early to have concrete goals in each competition. But we definitely want to establish ourselves in the top group of Germany's Women's football teams. If we manage to do that, anything is possible. Nothing has changed compared to last season. We are only thinking from one game to the next, even if that doesn't sound very spectacular.

DFB.de: What are your thoughts on the Friday evening’s game with Potsdam?

Däbritz: It was a difficult game, which was expected beforehand. Turbine are always a tricky opponent and they confirmed it on Friday night once again. After the break we conceded the opener, but fortunately were able to turn the game around in our favour.

DFB.de: There is no time to rest as you face 1. FC Köln next weekend already...

Däbritz: ... and we'll have to be very focussed in that game as well. Even the slightest relaxation in our performance could result in defeat. Köln are a newly promoted side and they have a lot of confidence from the first few weeks. They will do everything they can to try and beat the reigning champions. We have to prepare for that and fight for the three points.
